Aug 04, 2010 (newstodate): By fall 2010, Lufthansa Cargo plans to reactivate one of the last two MD-11 freighters parked in the Californian desert.
This will bring the company's 17th aircraft in the fleet back in service signalling a further improvement in the global air cargo business.
The decision will not, however, add to the capacity as another Lufthansa Cargo MD-11F aircraft crashed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 27, 2010, on a flight from Frankfurt to Hong Kong with stopovers in Riyadh and Sharjah with 80 tonnes of cargo.
In 2009 the carrier parked four of its freighters in the Arizona desert as the market collapsed during the financial and economic crisis.
