Aug 17, 2010 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic has hit the ceiling in aircraft capacity to serve its dynamically growing route network.
The carrier currently operates a fleet comprising 17 Boeing 737, 10 Fokker 50, two Boeing 757-200 and three Bombardier Q400NG aircraft.
To cope with high demand during the current summer period, airBaltic has also operated one Fokker 100 from Blue Line and two Fokker 70 from Carpatair as well as one MD-87 from the Spanish wet-lease company, IMDairways.
All wet-leased aircraft will, however, be handed back to their operators from end of September, 2010.
In the meantime the delivery schedule for the total of eight Q400 aircraft ordered has slipped, but the carrier still expects to have all deliveries completed during the coming winter schedule if not before year-end as earlier planned.
So far the scarcity of aircraft capacity has forced airBaltic to suspend services on its route since May 2010 between Riga and Belgrade, Serbia, as now confirmed by airBaltic.
