Aug 13, 2010 (newstodate): Relations between Latvia's capital airport, Riga International Airport and the country's national carrier airBaltic seem to be rather cool.
Lately the airport has filed a suit against airBaltic to arrest the airline's incoming payments and credit funds to secure debts owed by the carrier to the airport.
The court has, however, rejected the suit, leaving the issue open for further fights and hostilities between the parties.
Another rift also evolved between the carrier's minority owner, Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas and the state as it became known that Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas had acquired the airBaltic brand as well as several other brand names related to airBaltic.
Here the parties seem to have been able to negotiate a solution securing airBaltic's and other related brands.
airBaltic's president and CEO, Bertholt Flick owns Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas that holds 47.2 percent of the shares in airBaltic, while the Latvian state is majority owner with 52.6 percent of the shares in the airline.
