Aug 09, 2010 (newstodate): Icelandair will have to look up for new and probably unexpected competition on its trans-Atlantic route from summer 2011.
Delta Air Lines has announced its plans to enter services on the route between New York and Keflavik Airport from June 1, 2011, offering a daily flight with Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
The flight will also operate direct from Delta's hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul under the same flight number, with a stop at New York John F Kennedy Airport.
The launch of this new connection also marks the entry of SkyTeam airline alliance into the Icelandic market.
The new Reykjavik flight will be operated as part of Delta's trans-Atlantic joint venture with Air France-KLM and Alitalia, which gives customers access to a seamless network of connections in North America and the EU.
