Aug 26, 2010 (newstodate): Despite the western embargo on trade with Iran, the country has plans for renovation of Iran Air's aircraft fleet.
Speaking to Iranian press, the country's minister of road and transportation said the carrier plans to add eight Boeing and six Airbus passenger aircraft to its fleet "in the near future".
The minister also said the Iran Air has recently added five Boeing aircraft to replenish its aircraft fleet, demonstrating the ineffectiveness of the western sanctions on imports of new aircraft and spares.
If these aircraft acquisitions are true, deliveries may involve third-party agents, yet unidentified.
So far the only known aircraft orders from Iran Air has been for delivery in 2011 of five TU-204 aircraft, while the country has also aired interest in the new Russian regional aircraft, the Superjet 100.
