Aug 17, 2010 (newstodate): Certainly not bad - and even above expectations, is the summery of air cargo performance through this year's first half by Iceland's leading carrier.
-Export volumes continue to grow steadily, and imports have now also started to recover after a long period of stagnation due to low spending power among Icelandic consumers, says Gunnar Mar Sigurfinsson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-The level in import cargo is now approximately on a par with 2005, but of course much below levels in 2008 that generated historically high air cargo import volumes.
-We are continuing our current freighter schedule in the coming winter period with no major changes, and we are seeing no changes in the market since the expansion by Icelandair Express. The situation seems to be rather stable in a growing market, says Mr Sigurfinsson.
