Aug 02, 2010 (newstodate): Finnair has announced plans to acquire two more Airbus A340 aircraft to meet its growing long-haul traffic needs on the Asian routes.
The aircraft will be acquired on four-year lease agreements with the leasing company ILFC, and will join the Finnair fleet in late 2010 and early 2011, respectively.
The decision will enable Finnair to satisfy growth needs until the delayed delivery of the 11 Airbus A350-900 aircraft ordered in December 2005, originally slated for delivery from 2011 till 2013.
Finnair's fleet already includes 12 Airbus long-haul aircraft operating on routes to nine destinations in Asia as well as to New York in North America.
By the end of this year, one further new Airbus A330 aircraft, ordered earlier, will join the fleet, and with the additional A340 aircraft now ordered, Finnair's long-haul fleet will grow to a total of 15 wide-body Airbus aircraft by the beginning of 2011.
