Aug 06, 2010 (newstodate): The negative trend in cargo volumes continued through July at Estonia's Tallinn Airport.
A total of 463 tonnes of cargo was handled at Tallinn Airport, a decline by 60.4 percent, y-o-y.
On the export side, both mail and cargo showed increases by 9.3 and 31.1 percent, respectively, but the overall result remains dominated by the shortfall of import cargo by 72.8 percent to 275 tonnes.
The same picture emerged for the the period January-July 2010, with total volumes down 37.4 percent to 6.879 tonnes, again marked by the drop by 45.2 percent in cargo imports, 5,431 tonnes.
The drop in cargo imports stems from the lack of ex-Chinese shipments transferred via Tallinn Airport for onward transportation by road to Russia.
Much of this traffic has now instead moved to another international airport, Lithuania's Kaunas Airport that saw its cargo volumes up 150 percent during the first half of this year.
