July 07, 2010 (newstodate): The new Russian commercial aircraft, Superjet 100 is facing another problem with delays in the power plant certification.
The PowerJet SaM146, a JV between between the French company Snecma and NPO Saturn of Russia, failed to obtain its certificate as several flaws were detected.
The engine still lacks 75 percent of the flight tests on electronics and 40 percent of safety tests, and its is also found to be excessive in both weight and fuel-consumption, compared to specifications.
It is yet unknown how this will translate into yet another adjustment to the delivery scheme that planned first delivery to Aeroflot already before the end of this year - already several months behind schedule.
