Junly 09, 2010 (newstodate): The Czech Republic's Vodochody Airport is eyeing potentials for attracting low-cost operators.
With only one 2,500 m runway primarily serving general aviation and movements by Aero Vodochody, a Czech aerospace company, the existing infrastructure is too limited to allow for more intense traffic, and plans have long been on the table for expanding the airport.
The airport will need construction of a passenger terminal, but neighborhood protests have so far hindered expansion projects.
Anyhow, the airport is reportedly talks with "several low-cost airlines" that consider the airport an alternative to Prague Ruzyne Airport.
Vodochy Airport is owned by a private equity group, Penta.
