Jul 01, 2010 (newstodate): If Garuda Indonesia really means business in the Scandinavian airfreight markets, the company should maybe reconsider its choice of GSA in the region.
In a press release on June 28, 2010, Garuda Indonesia announced its new cargo GSA in Europe to be ECS.
In the same release, the company said it considered Scandinavia to among its major cargo generating markets, alongside France and Germany.
ECS is not itself present in the Scandinavian markets, but works through a sub-agent, Universal GSA, covering Scandinavia plus Finland.
A call to Universal GSA in Malmo, Sweden, on the new prospects does not, however, provide much information.
-I have no comments! says Aasa, Universal GSA manager.
Instead, she refers the call from newstodate to Jonas Drewsen, who is managing another cargo GSA, NordicGSA.
-Haven't we made it clear: seven people here have already told you that we have no comments! says Mr Drewsen.
The harsh refusal to communicate to the market leaves several questions unanswered: what is the connection between ECS and NordicGSA - and what is the connection between NordicGSA and Universal GSA.
Industry sources claim that ECS actually acquired NordicGSA, but this still remains to be verified.
Sources also claim that NordicGSA and Universal GSA are intimately connected, as they area also located in the same building. This, however, also remains unconfirmed.
In any case, Garuda Indonesia's visions for the Scandinavian airfreight market still remain to be revealed.
