July 09, 2010 (newstodate): Finnair is preparing to take the finals steps towards an all-Airbus fleet besides the short-distance Embraer aircraft fleet.
With the delivery of the latest newcomers to the fleet, the Airbus A321ER of which the carrier has ordered five, Finnair will be able to retreat the Boeing 757-200 aircraft used primarily on leisure flights to the Canaries and other destinations.
In the fleet now are four Boeing 757-200 aircraft, leased from IFLC, and this is already down from seven units since spring 2010.
As the deliveries of the Airbus A320ER start from the end of 2013, Finnair will gradually phase out these four remaining Boeing aircraft.
The only exception to the Airbus/Embraer fleet will be the last two remaining MD-11 aircraft, one of which is now serving as a freighter aircraft after conversion, and the other due for conversion after the end of this summer's leisure flights program.
