July 06, 2010 (newstodate): June 2010 proved another month to mark the difference in cargo trends at two neighboring Baltic airports - Riga in Latvia, and Tallinn in Estonia.
Formerly outperforming its neighboring competitor, Estonia's Tallinn Airport saw cargo volumes in June 2010 down by 53.6 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 690 tonnes.
Instead, Latvia's Riga Airport grew its cargo volumes by 38.5 percent, y-o-y, to 971 tonnes.
The problem of Tallinn Airport is the sustained short-fall of ex-China Russian cargo imports via the airport, while the success of Riga Airport is generated by the the continued growth in volumes carrier by airBaltic on its ever-expanding route network.
