July 09, 2010 (newstodate): A solution is now in sight to finally solve the security issues around export air cargo on passenger aircraft at Copenhagen Airport.
At the latest meeting among the parties involved - Copenhagen Airport, the handling companies and representatives from Board of Airline Representatives in Denmark, an agreement was reached to test a low-tech, low-cost and pragmatic solution in the form of a fine-masked net over the cargo trolley, secured with a seal to prove it is not pilfered with on the airside transportation road between the cargo terminals and the inner security zone around the passenger aircraft stands.
-Compared to other options including the video surveillance, plastic wrapping and replacing all existing more than 1,000 vehicles with new covered types, this alternative is both easily implemented and more environmentally friendly - and it also enables us to use the fleet of vehicles flexibly for both cargo and luggage transportation, says Johnnie Muller, Copenhagen Airport head of security.
A test immediately after this summer will prove the quality of the planned solution, after which a final decision will be made.
