Jun 30, 2010 (newstodate): Ukraine's Luhansk Airport is seeking financial means and investors to secure its continued development.
The airport needs to expand its existing 2,8700 m runway and has asked for state subsidies to realize the costly project.
In 2000, the formerly state-owned airport was transferred to regional ownership, but the regional government finds it heard to finance the projects that also comprises completion of a new passenger terminal.
The airport is currently seeing limited traffic. Dneproavia operates a daily flight to Kiev, and UTAir Ukraine has based three ATR-42 aircraft at the airport for services to Moscow as well as to other Ukrainean destinations.
Luhansk Airport is also in talks with international carriers including Air France for cooperation.
