Jun 28, 2010 (newstodate): Turkey has officially announced the closure of its airspace for Israeli aircraft.
Following this, all direct air services between the two countries have been abrogated.
The decision is part of the deepening rift between the two countries after the recent "Freedom Flotilla" and later similar incidents.
Only on December 30, 2009, Turkey and Israel signed a new air services agreement allowing for the designation of more than one airline from each side to offer direct air services.
The agreement now shelved, allowed Turkish airlines to make flights from Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya and Dalaman to Tel Aviv, Haifa and Ovda/Eilat in Israel.
Also, under the agreement Israeli airlines were allowed to make scheduled flights from Tel Aviv, Haifa and Ovda/Eilat to Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya and Dalaman.
