Jun 04, 2010 (newstodate): As expected, cargo volumes took a further dip at Estonia's Tallinn Airport in May 2010.
A total of 560 tonnes was handled - down 70.7 percent, y-o-y.
While airfreight exports were up 87.7 percent to 141 tonnes, the strong decline was driven by the shortfall of trans-shipments for Russia, decreasing import cargo by 80.7 percent to 340 tonnes.
In January-May the airport thus handled a total of 5,727 tonnes of cargo and mail - a decline by 31.3 percent compared to last year.
The ex-China exports to Russia transiting via Tallinn Airport for loading unto trucks into Russia is performed by the Turkish carrier and logistics company ULS that hopes for the existing problems with Russian customs to be sorted out from September, 2010.
