Jun 10, 2010 (newstodate): Plans for a much-needed new terminal at Latvia's Riga Airport took a further sytep ahead on June 9, 2010, as a MoU was signed between two the partners supporting the concept.
airBaltic and the Turkish company TAV Airports Holding A.S. will set up a Joint Venture for the development, construction and operation of a new passenger terminal at Riga International Airport.
-TAV is a respected international company with excellent track-record in airport construction and operation. Havas, a daughter company of TAV Airports Holding, is currently present at Riga International Airport as 50 percent owner of North Hub Services, a ground handling services provider. If the new terminal project is to move forward, airBaltic would prefer TAV as a partner, says Bertolt Flick, airBaltic president & CEO.
Plans are that the new terminal, needed to handle the growing volumes of transit passengers, will be completed within three years from start of construction.
In 2008 the proportion of airBaltic's transit passengers was 10 percent, rising to 65 percent in 2010.
