Jun 28, 2010 (newstodate): Male life expectancy differs from region to region. Now a Lithuanian pilot training institute wants IATA to consider this issue in relation to age limits for pilots.
-We work with over one hundred of Russian and CIS airlines and have accumulated a substantial amount of data related to the pilot professional skills and experience, which depends, among other factors, on the age, says Egle Vaikeviciute, Baltic Aviation Academy CEO.
-We have noticed that in the countries with lower GDP per-capita health-care system is noticeably inadequate or less demanding for the patients. Also, eating culture and customs, food product quality, high consumption of meat and low consumption of organic products may affect the average male age expectancy, says Mr Vaikeviciute.
As a result, pilots from e.g. Russia and CIS countries have a shorter life expectancy and should be retired earlier as their aviation-related capabilities may be deteriorating prior to age of 65, generally constituting the age limit for pilots.
