Jun 30, 2010 (newstodate): Plans are advancing for construction of a new green-field international airport at Saratov, in southern Russia.
The regional government has now allocated funds to the civil engineering works as a first stop towards realizing the long-awaited project that was originally planned for 2010-2014, but postponed as part of the financing by the Federal budget was withheld due to the financial crisis.
The project will include investments from both state, region and private parties.
The airport, 50 km from the city, will replace the existing Saratov Tsentralny Airport near to the city, and plans aim at establishing the new airport as a multi-modal air transportation hub for both passenger and cargo operations at international standards with capability to serve any type of aircraft.
