Jun 22, 2010 (newstodate): The bottle-neck in the Russian Superjet 100 program, the PowerJet SaM146 engine may soon be relieved.
Sources say the engine certification process is already ended, and the official certificate may be issued already before the end of this month.
The engine is a JV between between the French company Snecma and NPO Saturn of Russia, and the many delays in the engine program has caused the delivery Superjet 100 delivery scheme to be delayed repeatedly.
If the certification of the engine comes now, Sukhoi will be able to deliver the first aircraft to Aeroflot already before the end of this year.
Aeroflot is the lead customer for the aircraft with orders for 30 units.
