Jun 09, 2010 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is seeing bright prospects for winning back significant loads of ex-China air cargo exports to Russia.
One major player behind this is the Lithuanian logistics provider Hoptrans, with own agents in China and offices in Lithuania as well as in Russia.
-We can provide a fully integrated service from the Chinese exporters to the conseignees in Russia, operating a bonded warehouse at Kaunas and fully licensed to provide customs clearance of incoming goods, says Martynas Smitas, Hoptrans general manager.
-We also charter aircraft ourselves to bring the shipments from China to Lithuania, currently operating some six monthly freighters with shipments destined for Russia.
-The freighters are primarily IL-76 aircraft from Belarus airlines that can still be operated with commercial loads into the airport on ad-hoc permissions granted by the authorities, says Mr Smitas.
