Jun 21, 2010 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic has not given up its plans for launch of services from Riga to Tehran, Iran, announced earlier this year.
The flight were scheduled to start from June 8, 2010, with three weekly rotations between the two destinations, using Boeing 737 aircraft.
But soon after the announcement Tehran was deleted from the airBaltic's list of destinations, and nothing was offered in explanation.
-We were not able to secure all the details on time for the financially sustainable operations, says a company source.
-We are working to improve the conditions and will launch the route once we are able to have the suitable cost level which allows us to operate the flight with attractive prices.
The source, however, declines to comment on alleged political pressure to call of the start of services to Tehran at a time when the world community has decided on tougher measures against Iran due to unsolved issues over nuclear projects.
-That is not a topic we can discuss. Politics are for state and political authorities, the company source says.
