Jun 24, 2010 (newstodate): The jet engine to power Russia's new regional commercial jet aircraft Superjet 100 has now been certified by EASA.
Behind the new engine are the French Snecma and the Russian NPO Saturn, and the program's many snags have caused repeated delays to the Superjet 100 delivery scheme.
After this EASA certification, the Russian certification will follow within few weeks, and the first delivery of the Superjet to Aeroflot will now take place in November, followed by delivery of the second aircraft that will go to Armavia.
The aircraft has so far fetched 122 firm orders from East European operators, but is expected to eat into the European market as well due to its promise of high cost-efficiency and favorable acquisition price compared to competing western aircraft types.
