Jun 11, 2010 (newstodate): Aeroflot, not the Armenian carrier Armavia, will become the first carrier to take delivery of the new Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft.
-With the delays in the program and the devised delivery scheme, Armavia that was originally slated to introduce the first Superjet in commercial service found that it would not need the Superjet aircraft by the time it would become available, so Aeroflot will instead become the first Superjet operator from later this year, says Sasha Mian, Superjet International director, European sales.
The Superjet 100 was originally slated for first delivery by the end of 2008, but snags have repeatedly delayed the program - the last one being the certification, still pending, of the engines for the aircraft.
-All test have, however, now been completed and we are awaiting the certification any time soon. Then the aircraft will start deliveries, says Mr Mian.
Armavia ordered two Superjet aircraft for delivery from 2008, which was later re-scheduled for early 2010 but postponed again.
Aeroflot remains the single largest customer for the new aircraft, with firm orders for a total of 30 aircraft.
