Jun 21, 2010 (newstodate): Copenhagen Airport is now taking steps to realize its long-standing plans for a CPH Cargo City.
The recent migration of SAS Cargo Spirit's cargo handling from the terminal by the passenger aircraft area to the eastern premises has left the airport with nearly 27,000 sq. m of free office, terminal and basement floor space, now to be rented out to among others parties in the air cargo community.
-This is a historic opportunity to realize the plan for a Cargo City offering immediate access to highways, only eight km to Copenhagen City Center, 25 km to Malmoe and southern Sweden via the Oresund Bridge, and with facilities to handling of module trucks, says Lars Korup, Copenhagen Airport key account manager cargo.
-As we are now launching a campaign to draw attention to these new opportunities, our focus group includes freight forwarders, 3rd party handling companies, airline cargo trucking providers, GSSAs, cargo airlines and integrators.
Based on world cargo prognosis, Copenhagen Airport estimates its cargo volumes to grow to almost one mio tonnes by 2029, and the launch of CPH Cargo City is seen as a substantial contribution to facilitating growth in volumes and operators over the coming years.
