Jun 28, 2010 (newstodate): Ireland's Dublin Airport may be positioning itself as the best alternative to Frankfurt Airport for Air India's one-stop transfer flights between India and the USA.
It is known that air India is finding the charges offered by Frankfurt Airport too expensive, and has been looking into several alternatives, besides Dublin also including Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.
An Indian minister taking part in the memorial service in Dublin to mourn the death of 329 people aboard an Air India trans-Atlantic flight in 1985 was presented with the plans for Dublin Airport's Terminal 2 to be opened from November 2010 and noted the Irish government' agreement with its US counterpart enabling it to perform all US-entry procedures at Dublin Airport that will thus also be able to offer transit visas.
These features are expected to weigh heavily in favor of Dublin Airport as Air India is preparing to make its final decision on moving away from Frankfurt Airport.
Air India currently operates four daily flights from New Delhi and Mumbai to New York, Newark, Washington and Chicago.
