May 06, 2010 (newstodate): Formerly boosting the cargo volumes at Estonia's Tallinn Airport, the ex-China air cargo shipments destined for Russia has completely dried up.
-The traffic remains suspended at Tallinn Airport. Maybe the shipments have found another way into Russia, says a source within Universal Logistic System Estonia that has been handling the large volumes of Russian imports through Tallinn Airport and transferred from there by truck through various border points into Russia.
Most of the shipments were carried by ULS' own Airbus A300 freighters operating between China and Estonia via Turkey, but the traffic has been halted for several weeks now.
In 2009 Tallinn Airport handled a total of 20,062 tonnes of cargo, some 80 percent of which was reportedly ex-China shipments destined for Russia - a traffic controlled by one Russian company.
In April 2010, only 417 tonnes of cargo and mail were handled at Tallinn Airport, a drop by 41.8 percent, y-o-y, due to the decline by 60.3 percent in cargo imports, totaling 221 tonnes.
Detecting forged import documents and carriage of Chinese fake copy-products violating commercial laws caused Russian customs to close its borders for imports of Chinese goods via 3rd countries.
