May 11, 2010 (newstodate): Plans for the launch of a new low-cost carrier in Lithuania, Lithuania Express, are still alive - though maybe not exactly "kicking"..
-We are still working on this project, but there is no rush. We are monitoring the market to see which way it moves, says Thorsteinn Gudnason, Lithuania Express Project manager, and himself a member of the group of potential investors in the carrier.
In November 2009, Mr Gudnason told newstodate that the group had worked on the project since May 2009, with a first flight envisaged by "early 2010".
-There are still a lot of things to work out, and many preconditions to be met before a decision can be made. We remain convinced, however, that there is a need for a service like Lithuania Express even if we are seeing air traffic returning to Vilnius again now, says Mr Gudnason.
Behind the project is a group of investors, primarily consisting of Icelandic aviation people who sold their shares in Iceland Express.
