With The United Arab Emirates as a well-located transit point for cargo between Europe and Afghanistan, serving both military ISAF needs and airlift requirements by the many peace-keeping and humanitarian organizations, the non-military IL-76 freighters from a wide range of commercial airlines in Russia and the CIS are plying the air incessantly.
In 2009, cargo carried by commercial IL-76 aircraft accounted for 40 percent of the total volume at over 240,000 tonnes of airfreight.
