May 11, 2010 (newstodate): When - or if - Sundt Atlanta Skybridge takes to the skies over the North Atlantic again, it will not be with Boeing freighters from Air Atlanta Icelandic.
The traffic between Oslo, Norway, and US destinations New York and Miami by Sundt Atlanta Skybridge was operated with wet-leased Boeing 747-200F aircraft till March 2010 when operations were suspended, as they still are.
-Sundt Atlanta Skybridge is a very interesting project, it has performed quite well, and there is definitely a market for it. But we made a mutual decision for the freighter to be pulled out, says Baldvin M. Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic VP Sales & Marketing.
-We realized that the market has developed so strongly over the last year or so that the demand for freighter capacity on a global scale called for a close scrutiny of where best to allocate our freighter. In the end the aircraft was therefore allocated to serve other contracts offering a higher rate of utilization.
-We are still on very good terms with Sundt Atlanta Skybridge and cannot preclude that we may again provide freighter capacity to their market in the future. But if so, it will at least not be in the short term, and Sundt Atlanta Skybridge is now considering other options, says Mr Hermansson.
