May 12, 2010 (newstodate): Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport fared badly in April 2010 as for cargo volumes.
A total of 4,591 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport - a decline by 20.2 percent, y-o-y.
The steep drop was caused by the period of suspension of air traffic duw to the Icelandic volcano ash, but also by the continued suspension of the twice-weekly US freighter service by Sundt Atlanta Skybridge.
International cargo was thus down 29.9 percent to 2,714 tonnes, while domestic cargo was down 20.2 percent to 1,877 tonnes.
Cargo has, however, been at a low gear throughout 2010, with a drop by 12.2 percent in January, a cautious growth at 3.7 percent in February, and a decline by 3.4 percent in March.
During January-April 2010 the airport handled a total of 23,820 tonnes of cargo, down 9.4 percent, y-o-y.
