May 17, 2010 (newstodate): USA and Armenia concluded an open skies agreement in October 2008, already, allowing for future air traffic between the two countries.
Plans were to set up services via Amsterdam between Yerevan and New York and Los Angeles from 2009 - but so far nothing has happened.
One precondition for the opening of the planned route is the inspection by FAA to clear the airport for trans-Atlantic flights, and this has still not happened.
Another precondition is the acquisition of the carrier's first long-haul aircraft, and this also remains pending.
As the two preconditions are closely inter-related, the Armenian carrier and state are quarreling over who is to blame for the delayed launch of the services that are considered much in demand due to the large Armenian diaspora in the Americas.
