May 14, 2010 (newstodate): Slovakia's new carrier Air Explore, with HQ at Bratislava, is on target to perform its first flight around June 1, 2010.
-After successful technical inspections, we will finally take over our first aircraft on May 21, 2010, and with all other preparations in place we are ready to launch operations after that, says Martin Stulajter, Air Explore CEO and co-owner.
The carrier's first aircraft is an ex-SN Brussels Boeing 737-400 aircraft that will be operated for Italian tour operations to leisure destinations around Europe on a 12-month contract.
The recent decision by the Czech carrier Travel Service to launch flights from its new hub in Slovakia, basing one Boeing 737-800NG and three Airbus A320 aircraft aiming at operating flights to a total of 35 leisure destinations around the Mediterranean Sea, such as North Africa, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy and Cap Verde, does not worry Air Explore.
-We were well aware of the plans by Travel Services since September last year already, so this has been included in our views on the market from the start, says Mr Stulajter.
-We will not be affected by this as we plan to operate outside, not from Slovakia, at this stage.
