May 19,2010 (newstodate): Lithuania's Vilnius International Airport has upgraded its capability from CAT I to CAT II, allowing for traffic under more adverse weather conditions.
The technical implementation of the new category II installations has been completed, and the procedures for approval of the installations have been initiated, but it will still require several months before the eventual ICAO certification has been granted.
The delivery and installation of the new equipment has been provided by Siemens UAB following a tender process.
As part of the process, new approach and landing area lights have been installed to lead to the airport's 2,500 m runway.
