May 06, 2010 (newstodate): Lithuania's Palanga Airport is now opened for export air cargo.
The airport has so far been without the services of a Regulated Agent, hindering the development of its export air cargo business.
Cargo volumes at the airport have been low, and since a brief period in 2007-2007 where the airport handled some cargo charter activities, no exports have been handled.
UAB Interekspresas, with HQ at Palanga Airport, has now obtained the status of Regulated Agent, opening up for new export business.
Among the airport's few online airline operators are SAS with flights to Copenhagen, and airBaltic offering flights to Riga.
Interekspresas is also cargo GSA for SAS, Lufthansa, Air France, airBaltic, CSA, Finnair, Icelandair, Austrian, and Aeroflot, as well as provider of cargo handling at Palanga Airport.
