May 17, 2010 (newstodate): While Lithuania's capital airport at Vilnius saw its cargo volumes growing only nine percent to 381 tonnes in April 2010, another Lithuanian airport seems to be growing again after years of stagnation.
In April 2010, Kaunas airport reported a growth by 125.9 percent in air cargo volumes, compared to last year.
A total of 209 tonnes of cargo was handled at Kaunas Airport in April 2010, compared to only 137 tonnes in April 2009.
The increase was driven by cargo shipments that increased by 266 percent to 195 tonnes, while mail volumes were up 36 percent, to 114 tonnes.
In 2009 Kaunas Airport's total volumes were down 38 percent, y-o-y, to 2,119 tonnes, 44 percent of which was cargo shipments.
