May 7, 2010 (newstodate): Celebrating its 8th anniversary on May 15, 2010, the Kazakh carrier Air Astana announced plans for further expansion of route network and aircraft fleet.
Air Astana will open air services between Almaty and Urumqi, in western China, Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, and Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
To facilitate this expansion, the carrier will introduce new Embraer E-190 aircraft, the first three of which will be delivered at the beginning of 2011.
Until then, the new routes will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft.
