May 03, 2010 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo's return of all-freighter services is a major capacity boost in the company's Europe-Asia air cargo market.
During the first quarter of this year, Finnair Cargo's volumes totaled 24,958 tonnes - an increase by 23.4 percent, y-o-y, dominated by the growth by 34.4 percent in the Asian volumes, to 17,088 tonnes.
Finnair currently operates daily to Hong Kong, using Airbus A340 aircraft with capacity to lift about 20 tonnes of cargo per flight.
From May 12, 2010, the carrier will be returning freighter services to the route between Helsinki and Hong Kong, offering two weekly MD-11F rotations with 80 tonnes capacity.
Finnair Cargo earlier operated a Boeing 747-400 freighter in cooperation with Cargolux, holding 50 percent of the capacity on the once-weekly freighter launched on November 26, 2004, but closed down on August 14, 2009.
Also from May, 2010, Finnair will introduce a twice-weekly freighter service between Helsinki and Seoul, South Korea, adding fresh cargo capacity on the route that is currently served five times per week with Airbus A330 passenger aircraft.
