May 05, 2010 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport is hit hard in its cargo volumes by the unsolved problems with ex-China transit traffic destined for Russia.
In April, only 417 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at Tallinn Airport, a drop by 41.8 percent, y-o-y, due to the decline by 60.3 percent in cargo imports that stood at 221 tonnes.
On the positive side, the airport's export volumes increased by eight percent but still totaling only 29 tonnes.
After a promising start to the year, the decline started in March as Russian customs closed the borders for imports via third countries of Chinese goods after several cases of fraud and attempts at import of copy goods.
After the first four months of this year, Tallinn Airport's total volumes are thus only 5,166 tonnes after a drop by 19.7 percent, y-o-y.
