May 28, 2010 (newstodate): Pending the compilation of full-month May statistics, expectations are high at Denmark's Billund Airport.
-We hear positive signals from shippers and forwarders, and volumes so far into May are indeed booming, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport cargo manager.
-Imports are especially high, showing growth rates around 50 percent, compared to last year, while exports, comparatively lagging behind in growth, are still up by some 15-16 percent, y-o-y.
-Based on these observations we are now heading towards full-year volumes comparable to the record year 2007 when a total of 58,617 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport.
-But besides the strong recovery in volumes we are also happy to recognize a similar positive trend in enhanced quality, as seen in forwarders' adherence to security requirements, observance of deadlines and other crucial parameters, says Mr Ditlevsen.
