May 05, 2010 (newstodate): Despite the effect in April from Iceland's volcanic ash, Latvia's Riga Airport still managed to grow its cargo volumes -albeit modestly.
A total of 806 tones of cargo and mail was handled at the airport, representing a 5.6 percent growth, y-o-y.
Included in the totals were 369 tonnes of mail, up 7.6 percent, and 437 tonnes of cargo, up four percent.
Total volumes during January-April were 3,538 tonnes of cargo and mail, an increase by 27.3 percent, y-o-y.
In the preceding months of 2010 the growth in total volumes was 34.7, 43.4 and 29.3 percent, respectively, compared to last year.
While Estonia's Tallinn Airport is still the largest cargo airport in the Baltic region with 5,188 tonnes of cargo during January-April 2010, it has seen volumes down by 19.7 percent, y-o-y, in 2010.
