Apr 09, 2010 (newstodate): After merging with six Russian ex-AiRUnion carriers now controlled by the Russian Technology Corporation, Aeroflot may plan to set up a new low-cost subsidiary based on one of the airlines.
The six carriers are Rossiya, Kavminvodyavia, Orenburg Airlines, Vladivostokavia, Saratov Airlines and SAT Airlines.
First to introduce low-cost operations in Russia was Sky Express, in the air since January 29, 2007, followed by the Russian carrier Red Wings Airlines from later the same year.
The third LCC in Russia became Avianova, launching commercial operations from August 27, 2009.
