Apr 21, 2010 (newstodate): Russia has designated Tomsk Bogashevo Airport, managed by Novaport, as an international airport, upgrading it from its current domestic status.
Equipped with a 2,500 m runway, the airport, one of 52 Russian airports of strategic importance, is currently licensed to handle western aircraft including АTR-42, ATR-72, SAAB 2000, Воmbardier CRJ100 and 200, Airbus A319 and 320, and Boeing 737-300/400/500/800.
New licenses are, however, in progress, to permit handling of Airbus A321, Boeing 737-700, and Boeing 757 aircraft.
What remains now is final preparations for opening the airport as a new gateway to Russia and completion of a range of public services.
So far only Russian carriers provide domestic flights at the airport.
