Apr 07, 2010 (newstodate): The idea of a pan-Baltic airline is still roaming in the region, but views on its realization vary among the players in the three countries involved, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
-The concept may still be alive, but it is nor currently being actively developed, says Andrus Aljas, Estonian Air President & CEO.
-It is of course an interesting proposal, and in itself no bad idea as it takes as its basis the entire Baltic market that would provide a considerable critical mass.
-But the geography works against the idea; the centre of the Baltic region is Riga, and if travelers from Estonia and Lithuania should be served with international connections via Riga only this would entail longer transport times and less comfortable connections as compared to today's provision of direct flights from Tallinn or Vilnius, says Mr Aljas.
