Apr 28, 2010 (newstodate): Montenegro is to have its third international airport at Berane, in the country's eastern part.
Today's Berane Airport has three runways, one of which is a 1,900 m concrete/asphalt runway, and a terminal, but since the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia the airport has had no commercial air traffic, and the regional government has been at odds with the central government of Montenegro over the airport's future.
The decision now reached calls for the revitalization of the airport and its opening as the country's third international airport after a thorough reconstruction and modernization.
Plans are to call for foreign investments in the project, and talks with Turkish and German investors are expected to start in May 2010 already.
