APr 23, 2010 (newstodate): A new Icelandic aviation venture, Proaviation is monitoring market developments and waiting for a signature to its first contract before launching business.
-Initial plans were for a launch this summer, but due to today's highly volatile market situation we will probably wait till autumn 2010, says Valdimar Saemundsson, Iceland Aerotech, who has served as consultant to the group and will take the position as Proaviation technical director.
According to the plan, Proaviation will be an ACMI provider targeting the air cargo business with one or probably two Boeing 757 or Boeing 767 converted freighters.
-Plans are to set up an operational base in Europe, with the exact location to be determined by the lead contract, and the new freighter airline will probably provide capacity for flights between Europe and Africa and Asia.
-The outcome of talks with our launch customer will settle the details as to fleet, operational base and other issues. But the new carrier will thus not be based in Iceland while operating on an Icelandic AOC, says Mr Saemundsson.
