Apr 07, 2010 (newstodate): Plans for developing Finland's Vaasa Airport into a new cargo hub are maturing, and solving the financial issues are currently the #1 issue.
-After having obtained EU's approval for investments in the project, we are working hard to firm up the financial agreements with partners to actually launch the construction works, says Riitta Bjorkenheim, Vaasa Region Development Company ltd Development Manager, flight logistics.
-I expect us to be ready to announce the eventual financing solutions as well as our lead operator by late June, 2010. The cargo market is building up and we have many indications from various parties that our project will attract great attention and support, says Ms Bjorkenheim.
The airport is located in the midst of an important Finnish industrial area home to more than 100 industrial companies, including ABB and companies in the wind turbine and electronics industries, exporting over 70 percent of their production.
The project for new air cargo infrastructure, including construction of a new cargo apron area and two multi-functional cargo terminals, is estimated to require investment of 15.4 mio euro, and will require about one year of construction before launch of operations.
