Apr 29, 2010 (newstodate) On April 6, 2010, Lufthansa Cargo and Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo International Airport celebrated the handling of the carrier's 1,000th flight at the airport.
Being denied traffic rights through Siberian air space unless they moved their en-route hub from Almaty, Kazakhstan, to Krasnoyarsk, Lufthansa Cargo was suddenly convinced of the evident benefits in fuel and flying-time savings between Europe and Asia from this offer, and changed over from June, 2009.
Since then the volume of en-route technical and fueling stops by Lufthansa Cargo has increased to between three and seven daily calls.
Plans are now to further expand the cooperation between the parties, aiming at granting Lufthansa Cargo rights to expand from technical to commercial operations, which would give the carrier a leading position in turning Krasnoyarsk into an air cargo and logistical hub in Russia's Far Eastern region.
This issue will come high on the agenda of the forthcoming meetings on air services between the German and Russian governments.
