Apr 15, 2010 (newstodate): The Turkish ground handling company HAVAS has bought 50 percent of the shares in Latvia's new ground handling company, North Hub Services.
An agreement between the two parties was signed on April 12, 2010, based on a price tag of 3.25 mio euro.
-For North Hub Services this development provides a solid base of growth and further expansion beyond Riga International Airport. HAVAS offers numerous years of expertise in ground handling and valuable know-how in large scale operations, while we bring business knowledge of the local market, the Baltic Sea region and our customers, says Janis Balkens, NHS CEO.
-We have decided to develop our operations further, outside Latvia, to become one of the top ground handling service providers in Northern Europe. A partner like HAVAS means valuable support in reaching our mutual goals, says Mr Balkens.
With 65 percent of the shares in HAVAS, the Turkish airport construction and management company TAV is also managing HAVAS.
North Hub Services was established in 2009 by Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas owned by Bertolt Flick, who is also the president, CEO anbd co-owner of the Latvian carrier airBaltic.
Furthermore, TAV will join with airBaltic to build a new passenger terminal at Riga Airport to be commissioned in 2011, pending government approval.
So, NHS, TAV and airBaltic are tightly intertwined..
